How to pick the perfect pet name

When choosing the perfect pet name, it’s important to consider two factors: who your girlfriend is and how long the two of you have been together.

1. Choose a name that works for her

While it sounds obvious, it’s best to pick a name that works for her. For example, “big buns” might be the perfect nickname for the more petite girlfriend. Where it has some obvious oxymoron to it, making it silly and funny.

Try not to be too serious when picking a pet name.

2. Look for something that says who “you” are

Pick a name that shows your authentic personality as well. You’re involved in the relationship and it’s not all about her! Pick something that’s going to tell her that this is who you are and what you find interesting.

If you’re a funny guy, pick something funny!

3. Determine how long you’ve been involved with her

It’s best to choose a silly pet name in the beginning of the relationship. Don’t try to name her something like “babe” two weeks into the relationship. That’s probably going to scare her off, thinking that you want something “too serious, too soon.”

Instead, wait for “babe” and “honey” to be your nicknames for around the 6-month mark.

In the meantime, pick a silly or goofy nickname instead—though, one that’s still endearing.
